Unst attracts numerous parties of bird watchers, geologists, archaeologists, botanists and the like, drawn by the island's outstanding natural and cultural heritage. However, the choice of appropriate accommodation with dining and meeting facilities has always been limited and many parties have chosen to stay elsewhere as a result, visiting only on day trips. This is a great pity, for Unst is worthy of much longer and more detailed exploration and it is also the ideal gateway to Fetlar and Yell, both of which can be reached by ferry as many times as you like without the need for any additional tickets.
Saxa Vord has transformed the situation, offering a choice in accommodation and dining facilities, and meeting and lecture rooms to boot.
Saxa Vord's Sergeants' Mess Study Centre/Bunkhouse is equipped to handle parties of all sizes and we can offer full board and lodging for as little as £46 per person per day* for parties of more than 10 adults.
* For the £46 full board option you will receive a full cooked breakfast plus cereal and toast, a soup and sandwiches or packed lunch, and an evening bar meal consisting of soup or a starter and a main course.
In addition, we offer 1 free place for parties of more than 10 adults staying for more than 3 consecutive nights.
For this you get comfortable accommodation in either the Sergeants' Mess or Shackleton Annex, a cooked breakfast, pack lunch and evening meal, and lecture and meeting rooms as required.
We can also provide you with the services of an expert local guide at very competitive rates.
Alternatives:
If you prefer accommodation of a higher standard, our Nordabrake houses can be rented individually or in multiples and you can self cater or eat all meals in our restaurant.
From April 2009 you can also take all 12 of our new Officers' Mess hotel bedrooms - all doubles or twins.
