Explore, Discover and Enjoy UNST

Did You Know?

The Unst people’s roots lie in the islands’ Viking past. Norwegian territory for over 600 years, (longer than it has been Scottish/British), Shetland still has a very strong Scandinavian feel and visiting Unst is like visiting another country – but without the need for a passport!

UNST:
Surely The Last Great Adventure In Europe!

Situated in the wild North Atlantic, less than 200 miles from Norway and on the same latitude as southern Greenland, Unst is the most northerly populated island in the British Isles.

Although small in size – it is a mere 12 miles long by 5 wide – it possesses magnificent scenery, a special culture and an extraordinarily rich natural and cultural heritage.

Here you will discover fascinating and varied geology, intriguing archaeology & history, a rich fauna & flora, a vibrant local culture, and warm and welcoming people, and you can walk, fish and bicycle wherever you want.

However, Unst has something more to offer: something elemental. Wherever you go you will feel both the power of the natural forces around you and an overwhelming sense of space, freedom and peace. You will feel at one with the two absolutes of the North: limitless ocean and free air.
